Laser Brown Spot Removal
Sun spots are usually flat, tan, brown, or dark brown spots on sun-exposed skin and most commonly appear on the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest, and face . The pigment producing cells in the skin (called melanocytes) are activated to produce more pigment (melanin) by ultraviolet rays.
The laser works by pulsing light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the darker-colored spots, which causes those particular skin cells to rise in temperature. The melanin that causes discoloration absorbs the light and fragments without causing damage to any surrounding skin tissue. One to three treatments are recommended every 6-8 weeks.
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Eight weeks before treatment and throughout the course of treatment patients are advised to:
No tanning and sunless tanners
On the day of treatment no lotion, makeup, perfume and deodorant should be used on the areas to be treated
If you are taking Accutane, or have taken it in the last 6 months please notify office ahead of time
If you are taking any antibiotics, please notify office ahead of time as some make your skin very sensitive to treatment
Avoid laser hair removal while pregnant
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
AVOID THE SUN-completely after treatment for 4 weeks
Wait at least 6 weeks before the next treatment
