Laser hair removal works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. Melanin gives hair its color—so the darker the hair, the more laser energy it absorbs. Once absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft, the laser light converts to thermal energy (heat). This heat travels down the hair shaft to the base of the follicle. The heat damages the hair follicle—specifically, the bulge and bulb, which are responsible for hair growth. Damaging these structures significantly impairs the follicle’s ability to produce new hair.
It is important to know, at any given time, your hair follicles are in different stages of the growth cycle:
Anagen (active growth): Hair is attached to the follicle—this is when the laser is effective.
Catagen (transitional): The hair begins to detach from the follicle.
Telogen (resting): The hair falls out and the follicle becomes inactive.
Because only 15–20% of hair is in the anagen phase at any one time, multiple treatments are required to target all of the follicles during there active growth phase.

Most people need between 6-12 treatments spaced 5-7 weeks apart. Depending on hair type and genetic factors, some individuals may require additional treatments beyond these initial treatments. Some causes of excessive hair growth can be caused by hormonal imbalances, reactions to certain medications, normal aging processes, heredity, and excessive temporary removal methods like waxing, tweezing, creams and depilatories. Everyone is unique and will react differently to the laser. on text goes here

Laser hair removal is ideal for individuals with brown to black hair. Thicker hairs respond best to treatment and tend to show faster results. Laser will not work on blonde and grey hairs since little or no melanin is present for the laser to target. Laser hair removal can be performed on all skin types and tone.

4 weeks before treatment and throughout the course of treatment patients are advised to:
No tanning and sunless tanners
No waxing, Plucking, Tweezing or Electrolysis
The area to be treated should be shaved one day prior to treatment as closely as possible so the laser can target the energy towards the hair follicle. If you fail to shave beforehand we will likely shave the areas at the time of the appointment
On the day of treatment no lotion, makeup, perfume and deodorant should be used on the areas to be treated
If you are taking Accutane, or have taken it in the last 6 months please notify office ahead of time
If you are taking any antibiotics, please notify office ahead of time as some make your skin very sensitive to treatment
Avoid laser hair removal after a facial for 2 weeks
Avoid laser hair removal while pregnant

🚫No tanning for 2 weeks after treatment
🚫No waxing, Plucking, Tweezing or Electrolysis throughout the treatment
🚫No exercising for 24hrs after treatment
🚫No lotion, makeup, perfume and deodorant should be used on the areas treated for 24hrs
🚫No steam room or very hot shower the rest of the day
🚫No swimming in chlorine water for 48 hours
After treatment, you may experience brief swelling and redness which subsides within a few hours. Avoid scratching the treated area. Within 1-3 weeks of treatment, you should experience shedding of hair in the treated areas. At first, it will feel like the hairs are growing back in or little black hair dots stuck under the skin, but these are the hairs coming through the skin and will shed. Exfoliating and/or scrubbing gently in the shower with a cleanser or a loofah is recommend during the shedding process.
