Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive acne treatment that employs blue LED light to activate a medication called 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA). This therapy works by reducing acne through the shrinkage of sebaceous (oil-producing) glands, which decreases the amount of oil in each pore, as acne bacteria thrive on oil. Additionally, PDT directly targets the P. acnes bacteria on the skin's surface, which causes acne breakouts. PDT can successfully treat mild to moderate acne in as few as 4 to 8 sessions.
