BOTOX
WHAT IS BOTOX AND HOW DOES IT WORK
BOTOX, a neuromuscular inhibitor, which blocks the signals to the targeted muscles and prevents them from fully articulating to the degree that leads to wrinkles. Botox is one of the safest available procedures for the reduction and softening of wrinkles. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick 15-minute treatment that works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look better.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH BOTOX TREATMENT
Patients receiving BOTOX report the injections feel like a pinch. You usually begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within a week. BOTOX remains effective for up to three months but becomes more effective and can last longer when the treatment is done routinely as maintenance. Patients usually return for refresher injections every three to four months, which is ideal for long-lasting and effective wrinkle prevention.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS WITH BOTOX?
Side effects are uncommon, and when they do occur, they are generally minimal and mild. Potential side effects include temporary drooping of the eyelid, some minor discomfort in the injection site, inflammation, and tenderness. Sometimes there can be minor discoloration like bruising that will go away on its own fairly quickly.
